Down to Yellowstone Park
Rolling hills for miles...and rolls of hay too
A special night in the hills just outside Yellowstone
In the early morning we came down into Gardiner City
And then Into Yellowstone Park
First thing we see is a Big Bull Elk
and mom with a young one enjoying a drink
First stop was Mammoth Hot Springs
Flowing hot water was everywhere
Exploring the Yellowstone Canyon
The lower falls from Artist Point...good name
Yellowstone Falls
check out the boardwalk in the lower centre
It was a long walk down but much longer back up
Spectacular colours in the valley
We headed east to Tower Falls
and found a campsite nearby
This buck came right through our spot
and this little guy tried to join us for dinner
We left early the next morning to explore...
The Lamar Valley
Sunrise on the Yellowstone River was spectacular
The morning light with the mist was fantastic
Lamar Valley is well known for its Wolves
and we sure hoped we'd see some.
and we sure hoped we'd see some.
It was so early we had the road all to ourselves
which allowed us to go slowly and enjoy the view
and then Arlene spotted a wolf looking down on us
I shut off the engine and wound down the window.
He only stayed for a few minutes of magic
and then he lopped off into the mist.
Rudy was quiet the whole time...good boy
Now we were headed east out of the park
to explore the Bear's Tooth Highway
But we still had to get by all the Bloody Bison
The highway was like a snake as we climbed
A side road took us way up to a fire watch tower
The view was amazing...great place to work
You could see the fires to the south
Back to climbing up the switchback highway
and then finally to the summit...Fabulous 360 View
We headed back down and south on
The Chief Joseph Highway
Odd shaped mountains compared to the Rockies
We drove around amazing red rock formations.
they were huge...can you see the car in the centre
and hoodoo like mountains
The Shoshone River in Wapiti Valley
an early morning walk
before a great breakfast
Yellowstone Lake
Back into the park via the south east entrance
Peaceful rest stop by the Yellowstone River
Arlene has quite the eye for spotting wildlife
playing like nobody was watching
and then she caught our scent in the wind
Now we were in Geyser Country
on the southwest side of the park
some were blowing and others just bubbling
weird contrast between these two water holes
The algae was all sorts of brilliant colours
Beehive Geyser going off
No better way to end this segment than a
Great action shot of Old Faithful
On to the Grand Tetons Park
